Stephanie Afrifa is a cultural innovator, moderator, and creative strategist working at the intersection of arts, culture, and society. She became the first Dutch Black woman to consistently spotlight (Black) arts and culture on De Wereld Draait Door one of the Netherlands’ biggest prime-time television shows, where she built a reputation for her sharp cultural insights and ability to bridge worlds. One of her highlights is her interview with renowned artist and filmmaker Ai Wei Wei. With a background in Comparative Arts and Cultural Studies, she has curated exhibitions, designed public programs, produced events and developed cultural strategies in both the digital realm and real life for leading institutions such as the Kunsthal Rotterdam and NNT.
Through her practice, Stephanie creates intentional spaces where critical thinking, meaningful connection, and collective intimacy can thrive. Her personal project Celestial Space investigates how Black women experience the public space, blending research, art, and philosophy to reimagine belonging and safety. She currently works with the United Nations on the Decade for People of African Descent, training Afro-Dutch communities and policymakers to shape sustainable relationships and influence policy.
She previously worked as editor at large for Vogue Magazine, freelance writer for Harper’s Bazaar and curated four pages of art, literature and culture in Glamour Magazine for which she has interviewed Chanel’s nose Olivier Polge, filmmaker Jenn Nkiru and OVO’s first lady Naomi Sharon.
Stephanie is also the founder of Creative Studio AFRIFA, a space for research, storytelling, and experience design at the crossroads of arts, fashion, media, and society.
